Hyper Australia Athlete, Ethan Gair will be coming to SCS!
He’ll be here several days, so you’ll get to see him a lot, but he will be doing a special sword seminar on Wednesday, December 5. 6 pm. There will be regular classes.
You’ll need a bokken to participate. Do not plan on using your black belt sword! The seminar will be free, but we would love to donate to Ethan’s travel fund as a way of thanking him for coming to visit our dojo!
Bokkens come in 29.5″ and 40″ lengths. If you are 5’1 or shorter, choose the smaller. If you are taller, choose the longer. These will arrive Friday in time for the seminar!
We will have fun workouts each day at SCS during November 19-21.
November 19: Mayflower Monday Mashup
We will have a mashup of class activities from games and dancing to fitness and kicking to trivia and more. We’ll have a mashup of rocking music that will have everyone moving and grooving! Regular Class Times
November 20: Turkey Tabata Tuesday
Tuesday we will be doing more games, fitness and more martial arts fun. We’ll be doing a lot of TABATA, which is 20 seconds of as many reps as possible, followed by 10 seconds of rest. Regular Class Times!
November 21: Wishbone Wednesday
Each class will be different and you get to choose your own adventure! We will have two options for you to do at all times! You’ll have to sign up for these class times as they’ll be a little earlier and limited in size. Make sure you sign up here.
November 22: Thankful Thursday Tag Team Workout
8:30 am, we’ll meet at the dojo after you’ve thrown the turkey in! This is going to be a team of three workout where you’ll tag the other partners in to do different exercises. This is for anyone who would like to attend, and it’s free, but attendees should be able to follow directions easily and not be a distraction to the class. This is Ms. Crissi’s Workout, too! Space is limited, so make sure you sign up here.

You will be examined during your class.
In the past, our exams have taken place during regular class, where we finish with a spotlight on those being examined and it kind of blended with the class, with a focus on A and B Days. As with the past few exams, Students will have two opportunities to test during this exam period. In this exam, we will be having the students who are testing pulled to the side to be perform for Sensei so he can put them through their paces more thoroughly. Parents are encouraged to watch. This is important because Sensei can then give the proper feedback on whether it would be best to wait until the next promotion (January) or to retest again another day. Students who are not familiar with their kata will likely have their goal reset. The idea is to learn the chunks of the kata and practice it for retention, not cram it in at the end by learning it from a video. He will also test them on their fitness and various self defense practices that they have learned in class. He will also test their kicking and combination abilities. All kicks must be above the belt.
Students will be tested in class on these factors:
